Survey Party Chief
My years of experience as a party chief and land surveyor with many different job applications uniquely qualify me for employment as a survey party chief. My experience laying out tunnels, bridges, highways, and subdivisions are an asset I would like to bring to any future employer. Safety is very high on my list of priorities for my crew and for company interests.

Employment: 9/15-11/15 Louis Stokes V.V. Medical Center - Lead Escort -taking calls from the various floors of the hospital to assist veterans to appointments throughout the hospital such as dialysis and radiation therapy appointments.

11/08-9/15 Miscellaneous surveys and various endeavors, some of which were more successful and engaging than others.

6/13-10/13 JD Williamson Construction, Inc.- Worked as company surveyor laying out bridges over the Grand River, W.14th street in Tremont over I-71, and Rte.39 in Dover Ohio.

4/01-10/08 Rietz Engineering and Surveying.- Worked as crew chief laying out numerous subdivisions from initial topography and drainage study to final house stakings.

5/94-3/95 Affholder Inc. - Project Surveyor for 10 million dollar tunneling project. The tunnel was 8'-9" in dia. running 2 miles at .20% grade.

6/93-5/94 North Coast Engr. Surveying.- Worked sending out field crews to preform mortgage loan surveys,construction staking, and boundary surveys. We used TDS data collection.

4/92-6/93 McNally Tunneling Corp.- Was responsible for line and grade for approximately 10,000 feet of tunnel line and grade. The main section of tunnel came in within .1 feet.

Position Description The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer is responsible for all aspects of outside plant field and design services in support of telecom companies and works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints. This person should have a basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the telecom industry and will rely on their experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. They will be relied upon to implement company, client and industry policies and procedures as well as government codes and regulations to ensure accuracy, security and compliance. He / She may also make recommendations to improve quality of projects and/or procedures. Because this individual performs a variety of complicated tasks a certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
The OSP Engineer will:
  • Prepare cost estimates, labor estimates, material requirements for work orders for outside plant facilities while meeting quality, time and budget constraints
  • Update work orders, records, and databases (i.e. Poleline and Tracker)
  • Perform field audits of existing outside plant activities by visually identifying, inspecting, and recording equipment and structures in the right-of-way
  • Apply engineering design standards to underground and aerial pole line cable plant, including basic outside plant circuit design, transmission and distribution procedures, cable placement and splicing practices and cable protection.
  • Analyze data and produce cost effective design solutions based on intent
  • Resolve anticipated construction problems through drawings
  • Prepare necessary and appropriate rough sketch information required for preparation and drawing of work prints via a CADD system
  • Maintain land base and Continuing Property Records (CPR) for outside plant cable/pole records and investigate and resolve discrepancies between CPRs for outside plant cable/pole records and as built work orders
  • Prepare information required for permit applications to be submitted to municipal authorities
  • Collaborate with others (project managers, other engineers, designers, drafters, administration) to learn how to devise best infrastructure solutions

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Civil/Technical Engineering Field OR
  • Two year degree with job related experience/training OR
  • Technical certification specifically in OSP telecommunications with related work experience and/or military background in OSP telecommunications.
  • Knowledge of construction and planning procedures
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to deal with governing authorities and their requirements, negotiate with private land owners and provide instruction and guidance as needed to contractors
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to endure frequent: Driving, standing, walking long distances (5 miles or more in a day), navigating rough terrain on foot and lifting/balancing objects that may weigh up to ~20 lbs. and require the use of upper extremities and back muscles; work in proximity to moving vehicles in the right of way.
  • Must have dependable transportation and valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Must be able to pass a background check/drug test/driving record check
  • Must be computer literate – especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Must be willing to travel overnight regularly
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferences/Skills:
  • Over 3 years experience with fiber design, FTTH design, copper cable design, coax cable design, pole line design, and buried and underground design
  • Ability to perform 2-D Civil type design in CAD a plus
  • Ability to occasionally learn and operate customer based proprietary software and other computer systems to expedite and facilitate the work order process
  • Basic financial skills to assist in making sound business decisions
